I have to agree with Mystic on this one... Hype is a good dnb dj and scratcher though...

I haven't heard all of Hype's skills... So I could be wrong.
Anyway, i was thinking in those terms when we compared him with other turntabalists.

them dj`s have invented alot of the new scratches, which i have never heard hype perform, these are the 1 click flare, 2 click flare, 3 click flare, crabs, these are the main new ones, basically it comes down to crossfader manipulation as the fingers are used alot more and the scratch starts with the fade open and not closed like how hype scratches, its hard to explain without sound but beleive me these dj`s are taking scratching to a new level, a good site to see them is www.battlesounds.com

Hype's techniques are dated (ie he basically does transforms, chirps, and tears), but he's so smooth and that gives him a major edge. Definately my favorite DnB DJ, but as a stand-alone scratchmaster, others are better. But he does the best scratching over DnB as far as that is concerned. I mean you can pull as many flares, crabs, chirps and tears out in a set, but if your programming is crap and the crowd just isn't feelin it, what good are you? A lot of good turntablists are good technically, but they just can't hold people's attention span for more than 10 minutes. Hype says he does his best sets when he can go for 2 or 3 hours at a time.

Sorry - hype is a good scratcher but I could write a list a mile long of better scratchers!
Hype has been doing the same patterns since I can remember and normally the same samples aswell.
All you normally here these days are tweaks of that screech sample.

doctor k or hype dont hold any DMC titles, phone them and check if you want, but anyway a dj dont get to the level of peforming flares and crabs without having expression and that after all is what its all about, if a dj can do these skills then without a shadow of a doubt he can rock the dance floor, coz these skills take comitment and experience to perform.
i have got the upmost respect for hype, but things are moving on, he is the grandmaster for scratching to dnb, but dnb is now a global thing and other influences are now entering the equation, in the last world DMC comp, dnb tunes were used and world champions are starting to ocasionaly play dnb, ie CRAZE.
i think this aint a bad thing coz turntablists are keeping the decks alive and without them they would have died a long time ago, but along with them they bring cutting edge techniques, and because hype is a dnb dj/producer he aint on par with these skills, but now things are starting to merge and i think its a good thing.
i aint trying to dis hype, i see him as the grandmaster flash of dnb and he is a great dj, but alot of people see him as the be all and end all of the scratch dj which aint true and people who think like that aint really got an open mind. PEACE

You can't go and say that one is better than the other, because they (HYPE & Craze) work on different levels....Craze is a turntablist no matter what soundz he spins. Wax manipulation is his forte. Hype, however, is the fukkin jungle DON, a pioneer Dj for this beautiful sound. He may not be as tek a scratcher as Craze, but he was scratchin the jungle beats long before Craze had even heard this sound, and putting jungle mixes together that make me mess my droors. They are both innovators of theur own styles, nuff said.
